St. Mary (Rutherford)Favorite: St. Joseph (Hammonton)Sleeper: St. Anthony (Jersey City)Analysis: St. Joseph gets the nod as the slight favorite over a surprising Holy Cross team that looked very strong. St. Anthony has some athletes that can break some plays against St. Joseph and could be a factor. Montclair Kimberley Academy came on strong at the end of the season with an upset over Cedar Grove, but Lance Ramer's team will be underdogs against St. Mary. With just five teams, there is only one first-round game in this bracket.
Non-Public Group 3Game to watch: St. Joseph Regional (Montvale) vs.
Camden Catholic (Cherry Hill)Favorite: Holy Spirit (Absecon)Sleeper: Pope John XXIII (Sparta)Analysis: Holy Spirit and Pope John XXIII appear to have their best teams in recent years. St. Joseph Regional showed tremendous resolve in beating Wayne Hills last week. Camden Catholic's three losses were by a total of 11 points. Immaculata has only one loss, and DePaul and Delbarton have both played well down the stretch. Put simply, this is a very deep bracket.
Non-Public Group 4Game to watch: Paul VI (Haddonfield) vs.
Seton Hall Prep (West Orange)Favorite: Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey)Sleeper: St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City)Analysis: This section has belonged to the Ironmen of Don Bosco Prep in recent years. Greg Toal's squad has not lost an in-state game since 2005. Led by
Savon Huggins, St. Peter's Prep has the offensive firepower to make some noise. Paul VI can challenge Seton Hall Prep if they can slow the Pirates' well-oiled running game. Bergen Catholic would love another crack at Don Bosco Prep, but will need to get past talented Red Bank Catholic first.
