Since MaxPreps began its high school boys basketball rankings in 2009, California, Florida and Texas have reigned supreme.
Each of those states — three of the top four in terms of population along with New York, by the way — has had eight different schools finish the season in the
Xcellent 25 or now-defunct Academy Top 10 during that span.
Kudos for consistency go to
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and
Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.), which have been ranked nationally at the conclusion of the season by MaxPreps all five years.
Head coach Kevin Boyle has done the same at two different schools. Boyle led
St. Patrick (Elizabeth, N.J.) to Top 25 finishes from 2009-11, then made the jump to
Montverde Academy (Fla.) and finished No. 1 in the Academy Top 10 a year ago and No. 4 in 2012.
Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.),
Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) and
St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) have finished with a number next to their name in four of the last five seasons.
Thirty-two different states have had at least one school ranked nationally over the past five years. Read on for a complete state-by-state list.
