MaxPreps Student Section.Let's Go Lone Peak, Let's Go! Let's Go Lone Peak, Let's Go, was echoing throughout Utah Valley when the
Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) Knights came back from a 4-9 deficit to beat another region rival. They had an impressive 11-0 season. The seventh and last inning rally started when senior second baseman,
Macay Hunter, hit a single. Short stop,
Dakota Murdock (senior), hit a triple to bring in two more runs. And last but definitely not least, center fielder,
Josh Stephan, nailed another triple to tie the game at 9-9. "I was feeling great" Josh commented, "Very thankful for all of my teammates that got on base so I had the chance to hit them in."
Head coach, Mike LaHargoue, didn't say much after this triple because he knew that the game was not yet over. "Coach knew that we had a great hitter,
Michael Draper, up at the plate next. He came up to me and told me, ‘Draper is going to lay down a drag bunt, when you see it on the ground you go.'" And that is exactly what happened, a bunt was laid down the third base line and Stephan raced to the plate to score the winning run. So who are the Lone Peak Knights? Best team in the state of Utah? Yes. Best team in Region IV? Yes. Good enough to keep their streak going and win their second straight state title? Yes.
This team consists of many senior superstars including Macay Hunter, Michael Draper, Josh Stephan, and Dakota Murdock. Draper, who has started Varsity for the Knights for three years, will try to achieve another state title game for the third straight year. This achievement can't be done alone though. This baseball team is a family and they know how to lift each other up and help each other out. Josh Stephan says, "Everyone on the team keeps others up. We all know that if someone doesn't get the job done, that the next person will come in and pick them up."
That is what a team is and that is what the Lone Peak Knights are. It takes a quality team to stick together and come back from this kind of deficit to win the game and stay undefeated. As the knights continue to go through this season they have a target on their back, they are the ones to beat, they are officially the "top dog". Still in the middle of their season, they have the Brighton Bengals, Hillcrest Huskies, Jordan Beetdiggers, and the American Fork Cavemen still to play. Then it will be time to make another run through the 16 team bracket to get another ring on their fingers, another trophy in the case, and another title in the record books. Lone Peak Baseball is a group of kids, a team, and a family.
