LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- Here is a quick look at some of the standouts from Monday action on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, which hosted both the adidas Super 64 Tournament and the Nike Main Event;
Willie Warren: Warren took his high-flying act to the court early Monday morning, throwing down several alley oops and displaying a good jump shot. His skill set is reminiscent of current Denver Nugget J.R. Smith. While he contributed several highlight-quality plays, he was part of a defensive collapse in the second half, allowing the Missouri Titans to erase a 19-point deficit. Warren and Team Texas held on for the win, thanks in large part to sensational sophomore-to-be K.C. Ross Miller, who had a clutch steal to ice the victory. Warren will be fun to watch playing alongside Brandon Jennings and Malik Story at Oak Hill Academy next year.
DeMar DeRozan: Warren would have had the most sensational performance of the day, if not for Compton guard DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan lit it up, pouring in dunk after dunk, as the P Miller All Stars won easily this afternoon. DeRozan brought the crowd to its feet several times, and even elicited looks of awe from his opponents on The School Tigers (British Columbia, Canada).
Luke Babbitt: Babbitt showed his versatility today, playing both an inside and outside game. He did not shoot particularly well, but he cleaned up down low, finishing strong around the hoop. The 6-8 Reno native nailed a nice jumper over B.J. Mullen, showing his ability to score despite not having his "A" offensive game. He will be staying home to attend Nevada, and the people here are very excited to have him.
Percy Miller: Playing for his father, Master P, Percy showed that he is more than a recipient of the privileges that come with celebrity. He is incredibly quick, and has a good knack for making passes in transition. There were times when he tried to do too much, attempting errant alley oops to DeMar DeRozan that turned into turnovers. He has an untouchable handle on the ball, and easily knifed his way through the defense. The USC recruit will be presented with new challenges in the Pac-10, but should be able to hold his own.
Kenny Kadji: Kadji is another 7-footer with a high upside. He's got a huge wingspan, which makes him very projectable. Like many of the other big men in Vegas this weekend, Kadji's offensive game lags behind the development of his defensive game. He had trouble going up against quicker players, but showed promise nonetheless. He has a bright future in front of him, assuming he continues to develop more of an offensive repertoire.
Notes
Jarrett Mann had a poster-worthy dunk, throwing down a powerful right-handed jam over 7-0 Tyler Zeller. . .Matt Roth was at it again today, nailing five-consecutive three pointers against the Playaz. . .the NY Gauchos are loaded with guard play, featuring Jordan Theodore (Paterson Catholic), Kemba Walker (Rice), and Chris Fouch (Rice) among others.
