Bradey Henige of
Cactus (Glendale, Ariz.) is among high school basketball's national leaders in rebounding and putting himself on the radar of Division I college programs thanks to a string of absurd statlines. The 7-foot junior scored 40 points and grabbed 23 rebounds in a win over Goldwater (Phoenix) back on Jan. 20 and piled up 39 points and 26 rebounds last week to help the Cobras beat Estrella Foothills.
For the season, Henige is averaging 29.0 points, 21.3 rebounds, 4.0 blocked shots and 2.0 assists per game. Cactus is 20-4 – its first 20-win season in 20 years – and ranked No. 5 among 4A teams in Arizona.
Henige has recorded a double-double in every game this season. In a 72-71 win over Dysart (El Mirage) in December, he posted a triple-double with 39 points, 26 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Four days before that, he posted a season-high 50 points against Northwest Christian (Phoenix).
As a sophomore, Henige averaged 19.4 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game, leading Cactus to an 18-9 record and a playoff appearance. He also plays on the school's volleyball team.
According to VerbalCommits.com, Grand Canyon, Northern Arizona and San Jose State have extended scholarship offers to the emerging 7-footer.
