Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding
performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close
out the 2025-26 season by naming the top player in each state.
Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in
addition to local and state accolades.
Kelan Gruver of
Bonner Springs is the 2025-26 MaxPreps Kansas High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2 senior guard led the Braves to a 27-1 record and their first state championship since 1984.
For the season, Gruver averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from 3-point range and 81.6 percent from the free throw line.
