It was a good run, but the 21st Century Charter COUGARS unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They received a tough blow as they fell 84-65 to Indianapolis Crispus Attucks. While losing is never fun, 21st Century Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Indianapolis Crispus Attucks is ranked 18th).
21st Century Charter's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lemetrius Williams, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The match was Williams' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Terrence Hayes was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Dezmon Briscoe was his usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 23 points, 12 rebounds, and ten blocks for Indianapolis Crispus Attucks. Those ten blocks set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Ron Rutland III, who scored 19 points along with five assists.
21st Century Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Indianapolis Crispus Attucks, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. 21st Century Charter will face off against Marquette Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Indianapolis Crispus Attucks will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Indianapolis Washington at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
