Five of the games featured this week are playoff matchups.
Many states are either starting or in the middle of the postseason while the rest will begin next week.
Five
of the 10 games selected are playoff games but the only Top 25 matchup
is a regular-season finale in the Washington Catholic Athletic
Conference.
No. 25 St. John's (Washington,
D.C.) hosts No. 21 Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.). The Cadets can claim the WCAC regular season title outright for the third
consecutive year with a win while the Eagles earn a share with St.
John's if they come out on top.
The Battle of Belt Line is one of
the best rivalries in all of Texas and the series has been competitive
during the MaxPreps era (since 2004). DeSoto has won eight of the
previous 15 meetings but Cedar Hill won last year, 32-17.
Some
notable playoff matchups this week include Carol City and Booker T.
Washington in the opening round of the 4A Florida bracket. Mandarin (Jacksonville), the defending
8A Florida state champs, takes on an undefeated
Seminole (Sanford) squad in the other Sunshine State game featured this
week.
Postseason contests in California,
Utah, and Alabama are also on tap to go with some regular season finales
in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

When DeSoto and Cedar Hill lock horns it's always a big deal, especially when the district title is one the line. A Longhorns win gives them the district title outright and if the Eagles win they will share it. Cedar Hill started the season with back-to-back losses against No. 11 Allen (Texas) and Denton Guyer (Texas) but have won seven straight since. DeSoto's lone loss, by one point, came a couple weeks ago to Mansfield Summit (Arlington) by but bounced back nicely and beat South Grand Prairie (Texas) 41-26.

Two of the best programs in South Florida battle in the opening round of the 4A state playoffs. Don't let Carol City's 5-5 record fool you because the Chiefs have played one of the toughest schedules in Florida. The Tornadoes enter 8-2 with both losses coming against two of the top teams in the state — No. 14 IMG Academy (Bradenton) and Miami Central. This is the 12th meeting between the two since 2005 and Booker T. Washington has won nine of the previous 11, but the Chiefs have won the last two.

Beck, a 2020 Georgia commit, hopes he can lead Mandarin to another 8A state championship as they face a big-time test in the opening round. Seminole is 9-0 in 2019 and enter the postseason as the top seed in Region 1.

Bingham has owned the series — the Miners are 4-0 against East since 2017 and that includes a 27-14 win in the 6A state championship a couple years ago. They played earlier this season and Bingham held on for a 16-14 victory. The winner advances to the 6A state quarterfinals and plays either Herriman or American Fork.

The defending 7A state champs have won 13 straight dating back to last year and have beat the Wampus Cats four consecutive times and have won 11 of the previous 15 meetings. A win for the Hornets will give them the outright 7A Central conference title.

John Curtis Christian had its 21-game winning streak snapped last week in overtime against Archbishop Rummel (Metairie) and faces another big test this week against Brother Martin. The Crusaders lone loss this year also came against Rummel. The sixth meeting between the two since 2014, the Patriots have won four of the previous five, including three in a row.

One of the toughest postseason brackets kicks off on Friday and the most competitive first round matchup in the 7A Alabama state playoffs is Vestavia Hills and James Clemens. In MaxPreps' computer rankings the Rebels check in at No. 5 and two spots below them are the Jets. The winner moves on to play either Hoover or Sparkman (Harvest).

The CIF Southern Section Division 2 bracket is wide open. Both these teams check in at 5-5 but don't be surprised if the winner makes a run for the section title. They're as talented as any other school in the field and both have two of the top players in the state. Upland's 5-star linebacker Justin Flowe checks in as the No. 1 player in California on 247sports composite rankings and Oaks Christian's Ethan Calvert is the No. 10 rated player in the state for the Class of 2021.

Bixby has one of the most explosive offenses in the country and is putting up 60 points per game. The Spartans have won every game by at least 30 points in 2019 and the defending 6A-II state champs bring in a 21-game winning streak. The Roughers' only loss this year was a three-point road loss to Shawnee (Okla.) and with a win on Friday they will share the District 2 title with the Spartans.
