Surprise!
On Wednesday, January 12th, the Rockets girls' volleyball team was summoned from class early to meet in the gym at
Assumption (Louisville, Ky.) High School! They were about to be surprised by Coach Kordes, MaxPreps representatives and the Army National Guard officers.
Over 850 girls from Assumption High filed into the gym on Wednesday afternoon filling the bleachers and floor. You can only imagine the screams as Sergeant Kristofer Serna from the Kentucky Army National Guard threw out Army National Guard lanyards to the crowd and the volleyball team received their commemorative Tour of Champions t-shirts.
The Rockets season was filled with exciting accomplishments. They swept Mercy Academy to clinch their 15th State Championship and then were chosen by MaxPreps as a recipient of the 1st Annual MaxPreps Volleyball Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. Assumption was being honored on tour because they won their state championship and were ranked #7 nationally, a remarkable accomplishment considering there are 17,000 girls' volleyball teams nationwide. Additionally, Assumption was one of only five teams in the COUNTRY to receive the prestigious honor! It was a huge surprise to Senior Jeni Houser and the Rockets to be given this prestigious award.
Surprised doesn't fully describe the players faces at Assumption High School. The hard work and dedication of the Rockets showed throughout their winning season and with the entire school, faculty, parents and local media on site, they were simply ecstatic to be honored in such a BIG way! Congratulations Coach Kordes and the Assumption High! You earned it!
