Park Vista Cobra fans exited the stadium thrilled Friday night as their
football squad defeat the visiting John I. Leonard Lancers by a score
of 37-14.
"It was a really sloppy game," Park Vista coach Brian
Dodds said. "We had a lot of penalties, but we're very happy that we
had a nice homecoming win tonight and we were able to get all of our
seniors in the game.
The Cobras set the tone early, scoring on
the first play from scrimmage, when senior quarterback Billy Perez
handed off the ball to junior Tre Mason for a 65-yard touchdown. On the
Cobras next possession, they moved up the field for a total of 92 yards
with a Mason two-yard touchdown run up the left sideline.
John
I. Leonard answered back with a Luis Diaz 45-yard touchdown up the
middle of the field. Diaz would later add another touchdown for the
Lancer.
Senior Billy Perez and senior Justin Davis split time
at quarterback for the Cobras and both rolled up impressive totals
against the Lancers. Perez completed two of four passes including a
28-yard touchdown to wide receiver Demaris Freeman. Davis also
connected with Freeman with a 23-yard touchdown pass as time expired
before the half.
Park Vista's star running back, Tre Mason, led
the team with 116 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns. "I would
like to thank the o-line," Tre Mason of Park Vista said. "They opened
up the holes for me and I took it to the house."
John I. Leonard had a total of 167 penaly yards, three turnovers and eight plays for negative yardage.
"I
am very disappointed in the way the team played tonight. were going to
watch the film and learn from the mistakes," Coach Wayne Monroe of John
I. Leonard said.
With the win Park Vista advances to 2-0 on the
year and hoping to add another in next weeks game against the Spanish
River Sharks.
