One of the nation's premier defensive ends,
Stephon Tuitt of
Monroe Area (Monroe, Ga.), committed to the University of Notre Dame on Wednesday, according to the South Bend Tribune.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior, who also plays tight end, is the No. 7 defensive end and No. 75 overall player in the country, according to CBS MaxPreps recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.
Tuitt chose the Fighting Irish over Georgia Tech, but also was heavily recruited by LSU, Florida and Georgia.
He told the Tribune, "The school just offers a lot of opportunities after football is over and I really took that to heart."
Tuitt, who is
Notre Dame’s 19th recruit in the class of 2011, carries a 3.2 GPA and also plays basketball.
