The high school football season in Hawaii came to a close over the weekend.
Kahuku was among the victors with a 20-0 victory over
Punahou (Honolulu) in the Division I-Open final. That victory helped propel the Red Raiders to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
Kahuku got two first half touchdowns to take a 17-0 lead into halftime and finished the shutout by adding a third-quarter field goal.
Waika Crawford opened the scoring with a 1-yard TD run in the first quarter.
Kainoa Carvalho added a 21-yard field goal and was on the receiving end of a 13-yard TD pass from Crawford in the second quarter. Carvalho booted a 40-yard field goal in the third to cap the score.
Crawford was 15 of 27 for 177 yards and the TD while
Vaaimalae Fonoti ran for 113 yards on 23 carries in the win.
In Division I,
Konawaena (Kealakekua), the two-seed, beat four-seed
Waipahu 38-28 for the title.
Keoki Alani was 27 of 26 passing for 256 yards and two touchdowns, both to
Zedekiah Anahu-Ambrosio. The Wildcats finished No. 7 in the Final Hawai'i MaxPreps Top 25.
In Division II,
Waimea downed
King Kekaulike (Pukalani) 45-6 behind a rushing attack that gained 445 yards and found the end zone five times. The Menehunes were led by
Kameron Apilado's 228 yards rushing and two scores.
Aukai Emayo added 84 yards on the ground with two TDs, while
Kaili Arakaki ran for 54 yards and a score.
