Charles, who was one of the NFL's leading rushers prior to suffering a season-ending injury, was a star at Port Arthur Memorial before continuing on to the University of Texas.
Over his final two high school seasons, Charles rushed for an astonishing 4,107 yards and 50 scores, earning first team all-state honors both as a junior and as a senior.
In addition to his prolific career on the gridiron, Charles was a state title-winning track runner in high school.
Joining Charles for the ceremony were his wife and three children. Port Arthur Memorial principal Dr. Glenn Mitchell represented the school in the presentation that occurred during halftime of the varsity football game.
