The high school girls basketball season came to an end in Texas over the weekend as three teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings hoisted trophies in their respective classifications.
Aaliyah Chavez, the top-ranked player in the Class of 2025, led Monterey to its first state title since 1981, scoring 19 in the championship game. She finished her career with 4,796 points, which is good for 14th on the national career scoring list. She is set to announce her college commitment on March 25.
Boswell won its first state title by negating a cold-shooting first half — going 1 of 15 from 3-point range — with stifling defense in the opening half of a 51-42 win over
Fort Bend Hightower (Missouri City). The Pioneers found their stroke after intermission with
Sydney Durrah scoring 17, MVP
Seleste Massey adding 16 and Miami commit
Camille Williams tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds in her final game.
It was a fourth banner for Lincoln but first since 2008, ending a 16-year championship drought for Dallas ISD schools. The Tigers led wire-to-wire in the 60-32 victory over
Cuero.
Ar'jayla Elder led the way with 19 points while
Grace Spencer and freshman
Lanae Dallas each poured in 12.
Quakers head coach Tamika Dudley announced Tuesday she is leaving the school to become director of girls basketball operations at The St. James, a Northern Virginia multi-purpose athletic facility that hosts the annual She Got Game Classic. Additionally, she will be the varsity coach of the St. James Performance Academy, the educational arm of the facility which plans elementary, middle school and high school programs next season.
