Each week during the season (regular and post), there will be a fan-generated contest to tab weekly winners. Each winner receives a letter and award patch for their varsity jacket.
How does it work? Nominees are selected from statistics submitted on MaxPreps. Coaches who do not have current access may request their free account here. Weekly finalists are released on MaxPreps every Tuesday and voting is conducted in a special poll. Voting ceases at noon on Mondays. The winners are announced the next day along with the next week's nominees.
Participants may vote as many times as they want. It's a competition.

Week 1 Pennsylvania High School Athlete of the Week Nominees
* Caden Smith, Franklin Regional (Murrysville) FootballSenior defensive back/receiver had three interceptions (returned one for a touchdown) and five tackles in a 41-12 win over Plum. Also completed his lone pass attempt on offense for a 64-yard touchdown.
* Griffin Buzzell, Meadville FootballSenior running back/linebacker balled out in a 50-48 loss to Grove City. Carried the ball 20 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns and registered 19 tackles on defense.
* Jeff Hoenstine, Central (Martinsburg) FootballJunior quarterback completed 20-of-27 passes for 334 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-28 win over Chestnut Ridge.
* Jake Costanzo, Kane FootballSenior had 12 tackles, five tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovery in a 21-6 win over Moniteau.
* Bo Swartz, West Shamokin (Rural Valley) FootballSenior quarterback completed 13-of-19 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns in a 50-8 win over Penns Manor.
* Sy Burgos, East Pennsboro (Enola) FootballSenior running back ran for 366 yards and four touchdowns (72, 72, 62 and 22 yards) in a 42-21 win over York Suburban.
* Judd Novak, Manheim Central FootballSenior quarterback threw for 311 yards and four touchdown on 24-of-31 passing in a 35-7 win over Cumberland Valley.
* Cameron Williamson, Harbor Creek (Harborcreek) FootballSenior running back/linebacker carried the ball 15 times for 255 yards and three touchdowns and had 13 tackles in a 42-7 win over Franklin.
