MaxPreps Texas Top 25 teams had their hands full, going 4-1 last week against out-of-state opponents.
After trailing for most of the second half, No. 10 Carroll (Southlake) needed a trick 2-point conversion in overtime to prevail 42-41 over Union (Tulsa, Okla.).
No. 2 Allen had to survive a 58-53 shootout victory over Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.).
No. 4 DeSoto lost starting quarterback Tristen Wallace to injury in the second quarter of a 54-34 win over Eastern Christian Academy (Elkton, Md.).
No. 17 Highland Park extended its home winning streak to 80 games with a 48-42 victory over Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.).
No. 25 Aledo, playing without injured running back Jess Anders, was no match for Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) in a 42-7 defeat.
Cedar Hill remained atop the rankings and Manvel, on the strength of a 42-17 triumph over North Shore (Houston), climbs to No. 5.

2. Allen 2-0 (2)Kyler Murray (Texas A&M pledge) accounted for seven touchdowns and 564 yards of offense in a 58-53 victory over 1-1 Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.). Murray threw for 381 yards and rushed for 183 yards and five scores. The Allen defense surrendered four touchdowns of 45 yards are longer. Up next is the District 6-6A opener at 1-1
Boyd (McKinney) on Friday.
3. Katy 2-0 (3)The defense still has not allowed a point after the Tigers' 55-0 blanking of 0-2 Fort Bend Travis (Richmond).
Rodney Anderson (131 yards) and
Kyle Porter rushed for three touchdowns apiece and
Alec DaPra toed two field goals. Up next is a road trip to
Woodlands Prep (Spring) (1-1) on Friday.
4. DeSoto 2-0 (4)When quarterback
Tristen Wallace left midway in the second quarter with an injury, the Eagles inserted backup
Jaylin Nelson and concentrated on the running attack in a 54-34 victory over 1-2 Eastern Christian (Elkton, Md.). Nelson, a sophomore, rushed for 53 yards and two scores. Next DeSoto faces 0-2
South Oak Cliff (Dallas) on Saturday.

The defense pitched a second-half shutout and the Mavericks turned a four-point halftime lead into a convincing 42-17 victory over 1-1 Galena Park North Shore (Houston). Junior quarterback
D'Eriq King had 241 yards of offense with a hand in four touchdowns. After an open date, the Mavericks begin District 22-6A play against
Dobie (Houston) on Sept. 19.
6. Steele (Cibolo) (2-0 (6)The starters played less than a half in the Knights' 62-0 thumping of 1-1 United South (Laredo). The Steele defense intercepted three passes and has yet to allow any points. On Friday the Knights host 2-0
O'Connor (Helotes).
7. Pearland 2-0 (8) Jacolbie Butler (UT-San Antonio pledge) rushed for 143 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Oilers to a 34-3 thumping of 1-1 Memorial (Houston). The defense allowed only 165 yards and nine first downs. On Thursday the Oilers begin District 22-6A play against 0-2
Dobie (Houston).
8. Trinity (Euless) 2-0 (5)The Trojans jumped to a 17-0 lead midway in the second quarter, but had to hold off a rally by 1-1 Rockwall-Heath (Rockwall) for a 17-14 victory.
Ja'ron Wilson and
Markis McCray had touchdown runs and
Luis Martinez booted a 36-yard field goal. Up next is a Thursday home game against 2-0
Lancaster.
9. Cy-Fair (Cypress) 1-0 (10)The Bobcats are coming off an open date after beginning the season with a 9-0 shutout over The Woodlands. Next is the District 17-6A opener against 0-1

13. Skyline (Dallas) 2-0 (14)Kylan Johnson's fourth touchdown pass, a 34-yarder to
Savon Rollison with 40 seconds remaining, gave the Raiders a 53-48 victory over 0-2 Martin (Arlington). Johnson threw for 393 yards and Rollison had 11 catches for 236 yards and three scores. Running back
Da'Leon Ward rushed for 224 yards and four scores. Up next the Raiders host 2-0

14. Midway (Waco) 2-0 (15)Dyondre Walker returned a fumble 90 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter to help the Panthers prevail 24-14 over 1-1 Mansfield. Quarterback

Devontre Stricklin had six catches for 108 yards. Up next is road trip to 2-0

18. Lufkin 2-0 (21)Steven Sowell rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers pulled away to a 43-19 triumph over 0-2 Lee (Tyler). Quarterback

Sam Ehlinger accounted for 330 yards and six touchdowns in a 49-48 victory over 1-1 Temple. Ehlinger threw for 192 yards and four scores and rushed for 138 yards and two more touchdowns. Temple's chance to tie with four minutes remaining was lost when the PAT snap went awry. Up next is a Friday home game against 1-1

23. Guyer (Denton) 1-1 (25)Anthony Terzini booted a 33-yard field goal with no time remaining in a 45-42 victory over 0-2 Ennis. Guyer tied it with 4:38 remaining on a 35-yard scoring run by sophomore
