Napoleon and Alex Aniciete both won individual titles and
Las Vegas won its second straight Class 4A championship at the state tournament held at Spanish Springs (Sparks).
The Wildcats scored 103.5 points to easily outdistance second-place
Green Valley (Henderson), which totaled 88.
Napoleon Aniciete, a senior, beat Ray Waters of Spring Valley (Las Vegas) 7-1 at 152 pounds to capture his third state title. He sat out his sophomore year after transferring from Bishop Gorman. Sophomore Alex Aniciete won the 135-pound title by beating Brandon Brian of Arbor View (Las Vegas) 13-3.
The Wildcats' Nathan Garcia also earned a state title at 119 by beating Curtis Lampert of Spanish Springs 6-3.
Green Valley had two state champions in Zach Perry, who pinned Las Vegas' De'Armon Hall to win at 125, and 145-pounder Ryder Newman, who edged Kenny Pero of Cheyenne (North Las Vegas) 10-7.
Reed (Sparks) senior Spencer Empey topped Green Valley's Nathan Thomas 9-3 at 215 to finish the season 50-0. Broc Westlake also earned a state title for the Raiders, winning at 189 pounds.
Reed finished sixth in the team standings.
McQueen (Reno) was the top team from the north, finishing tied for third with
Palo Verde (Las Vegas) with 66 points.
Lowry (Winnemucca) earned its third straight 3A team title, while
Yerington won the 2A crown.
