Boys Basketball: Lincoln seeks perfection
Sioux Falls Lincoln is off to a 17-0 start on the season and the Patriots are seeking their first state Class AA championship since 1995. If the Patriots can make the run continue, they could become the third South Dakota team in the AA ranks to be a state champion and perfect at the same time.
The last undefeated AA squad was Mitchell’s 1984-85 team that finished 23-0. Two years before that, Sioux Falls Washington went undefeated on its way to a state championship. A state title would also make Lincoln the first South Dakota school to win AA boys basketball and 11-AA state football titles in the same school year.

Culver has coached the Tanagers to five state Class 11-A titles in 32 years, all at Vermillion.
Mitchell’s 39-year coaching career ended in 2008 with a career record of 153-110 in stops in Minnesota, Iowa and Alaska, as well as five schools in South Dakota. He coached at Parkston for the final 21 years of his career.

Football: Lead-Deadwood stays in 11-A
A Black Hills area school district has lost its attempt to drop a class in football.
The Lead-Deadwood school had appealed to the South Dakota High School Activities Association to allow the school to play in Class 11-B. They currently play in Class 11-A, but missed the Class 11-B level by about two students. School officials had appealed to the SDHSAA to become an 11-B school, but that appeal was dismissed by the association.
