Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, Mo.) was one of 26 high school girls basketball teams to extend state championship streaks to three or more this season.
The
Red Knights completed their quest for a ninth straight Missouri state
championship by defeating
Staley (Kansas City) in the final for the second straight season. The
50-46 win was the closest margin of victory in a title game
for Incarnate Word Academy since winning its first in 1995.
Incarnate Word Academy, winners over 16 state titles overall, might have had 10 straight if not for the COVID-shortened 2020 postseason, where it reached the state semifinals before the pandemic forced the shutdown of
high school sports.
Overall, 72 teams entered the 2026
postseason with at least two straight state titles.
Hoover (Ala.) and
Virginia Academy (Ashburn, Va.) extended their streaks to six while
Wossman (Monroe, La.) and
Providence Academy (Plymouth, Minn.) captured a fifth straight crown. Eight schools won for a fourth
straight year while 13 more completed a three-peat.
Twelve teams
with active state championship streaks reached their respective state
championship game before coming up short. The longest such streak
snapped belonged to
Pikesville (Baltimore, Md.) while the seven-year championship run of
Douglas came to an end before the Wyoming state final.
Read on for a full list of active girls basketball state championship streaks of three or more coming out of the 2025-26 season.
