The longtime college coach last worked at Minnesota's College of St. Scholastica, where he helped the Saints to a 7-3 record last season as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
The Saints set school records for points (340), touchdowns (46), passing touchdowns (33) and average yards per game (387.5).
IMG Academy enters its eighth season after going 9-1 in 2019 with a No. 8 in the MaxPreps national high school football rankings. The Ascenders went 45-2 under Kevin Wright, who resigned after five seasons at the helm.
The independent school, which doesn't play for a state title, annually collects and develops some of the top talent in the country. According to the program, 49 IMG players have been named All-Americans and over the past six signing classes, nearly 140 plays have committed to or moved on to NCAA FBS programs.
Before St. Scholastica, Acosta coached at Bucknell (2017-18), Cornell (2016) and Syracuse (2014-15).
