As an NFL quarteback, Trent Dilfer guided the Baltimore Ravens to the Super Bowl XXXV title in 2001. Nineteen years later, Dilfer looks for another title — this one as the second-year head coach of Lipscomb Academy as the 13-2 Mustangs take on 10-1 Christ Presbyterian Academy on Thursday in the Division II Class AA championship.
The Lions were the team to knock Lipscomb from the postseason last year in Dilfer's inaugural season. The Mustangs are gunning for their first state title since 2007 as the NFL veteran has transformed the Nashville private school in two short years.
“We’ve established a national footprint before we were a
national-caliber program,”
he told the Tennessean. “I think that’s poured gasoline on
our growth.”
The Lipscomb-CPA battle is one of nine Tennessee titles that will be decided this weekend.
