The first annual MaxPreps Girls' Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard traveled across the Pacific Ocean to Kamehameha Schools Kapalama in beautiful Hawaii. The Warriors finished the season ranked No. 23 in the country by the MaxPreps Freeman poll from a pool of 15,000 teams nationwide and No. 1 in Hawaii. They beat ‘Iolani 1-0 in the Hawaii Division I State Championship game to win the state title.
On Saturday, April 7th, 2012, MaxPreps and the Hawaii Army National Guard ascended the picturesque Kamehameha campus to present coach Missy Moore and the Warriors with the prestigious Army National Guard national ranking trophy just before the start of the varsity volleyball game. The stands were filled with fans cheering for their state champions.
Athletic Director Glennie Adams opened the ceremony by introducing each member of the team and coaching staff and presented each player a traditional celebratory lei. She spoke about the phenomenal season the girls had and their success before turning it over to Chris Stonebraker, the MaxPreps representative. Chis also got lei'd before he told the fans about the 1st Annual Girls' Soccer Tour of Champions and MaxPreps. Chris then introduced Lieutenant Colonel Laura Sores, a Kamehameha graduate herself, from the Hawaii Army National Guard. After receiving a lei of her own, Lieutenant Colonel Sores spoke about the dedication and commitment it takes to be part of a team. The qualities exhibited by championship teams like the Warriors are the same qualities necessary for serving in the Army National Guard.
Lieutenant Colonel Sores then presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to Coach Moore and the three senior captains and the crowd erupted.
Following the ceremony, the team, coaches and representatives from MaxPreps and the Hawaii Army National Guard posed for photos with their new hardware.
Congratulations to the Kamehameha Warriors for their spectacular season!
