Nowata (Nowata, Okla.) High School Player of the Week is Shelbi Kulchinski. Shelbi is a senior on the golf team. This past week, Shelbi qualified for State when she shot a 95 at the State Qualifier in Hennryetta, Oklahoma.
After ten years of playing golf, all her hard work paid off. Although she did not place at State, she got the experience of a lifetime playing alongside the best female golfers in Oklahoma. "Some people think that golf is a really boring sport, but I love it! It feels really great when you practice hard and it pays off", stated Shelbi about her love of the sport.
During the golf season, the team practiced every day and sometimes traveled to Bartlesville to practice on their driving range. "At practice I worked on putting and chipping since those are my weaknesses". Shelbi knows that in order to succeed you must practice, practice, and practice some more.
Before State, the team traveled to many different tournaments including: Grove, Verdigris, Nowata, Miami and Claremore. She also placed in the Top Ten at several of these tournaments. All the while she was perfecting her stuff for State.
Now that golf is over and done with, Shelbi has different things to focus on, like college and graduation. She plans to attend Rogers State University and to continue golfing in her future.
