1. Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose)
Coach: Mike Janda
2014 finish: 10-3
Team preview

The Bells return 13 starters from last year's Open Division semifinalist, including speedy running back Kyle MacCauley, a CCS sprint champion in track and field. Other key returners are Jacob Bergstrom, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound tackle and linebacker, and 6-3, 255-pound two-way lineman Wolfie Rehbock. Bellarmine, playing out of the rugged West Catholic Athletic League, should benefit from new players off last year's 9-1 JV squad. The Bells have won 97 games the last 10 seasons.

2. Valley Christian (San Jose)
Coach: Mike Machado
2014 finish: 9-3
Team preview

The Warriors, another WCAL juggernaut, lost a ton to graduation but return a very talented team, led by 6-5 receiver Collin Johnson, a four-star senior headed to Texas. Though they lost Johnson's brother Kirk to graduation — he's also at Texas — there should be no drop-off at running back with Morian Walker II, a physical and fleet 6-1, 200-pound senior. Another top recruit is 6-1, 210-pound linebacker Akil Jones, who will also run the ball.

3. Serra (San Mateo)
Coach: Patrick Walsh
2014 finish: 8-5
Team preview

The defending WCAL champions will not have a postseason because of two-year sanctions against the program for cancelling a consolation playoff game last season against Milpitas. Safety concerns were at the forefront of Walsh's decision, which was backed by the school's administration. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, the CCS implemented the first consolation football bracket in the country's history. It was wiped away after one season. The Padres have one of their best teams skill-wise, but feature a young line. Third-year starting wide receiver-defensive back Brandon Monroe, Tevita Tuitakavake and running back Kelepi Lataimua are three of the team's top skill players.

4. Milpitas
Coach: Kelly King
2014 finish: 12-1
Team preview

The Trojans appeared on their way to an undefeated Open Division section championship, but a bad night against Bellarmine in the semifinals derailed them. Once again, Milpitas is blessed with great size and speed while returning 11 starters. Among those are 6-6, 380-pound two-way lineman D'Zhane Walker, 5-9, 180-pound running back Cros Chavez and 6-foot, 175-pound senior quarterback Oliver Svirsky.

5. Saint Francis (Mountain View)
Coach: Greg Calcagno
2014 finish: 9-4
Team preview

The fourth WCAL member of the Fab 5, the Lancers are defending CCS Division II champions. A definite by-committee operation, Saint Francis returns starting quarterback Kamalii Akina (1,246 yards, 11 touchdowns), leading rusher Lutoviko Ahoia (914 yards, 9 TDs) and tackler Kevin Glajchen (104).
