SEASON OUTLOOK

Toughest game: Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.). Manatee loses superstar running back Mike Blakely, but returns a number of other key pieces, like quarterback Cord Sandburg. It will be able to match up athletically with Good Counsel, something most teams on the Falcons' schedule cannot do.
Question mark: How well can Whitey Marshall take command of the offense and cause opposing defenses to respect Good Counsel's passing attack?
Local outlook: With the departure of head coach Bill McGregor from DeMatha, this could be a year where Good Counsel widens the gap between itself and other Washington, D.C. area programs. Gilman, which defeated Good Counsel in 2010, should be strong again in 2011.
Overall outlook: The Falcons need to meld offensively and play consistent football. Following a huge road win against St. Xavier last season, the team came out flat and lost to Gilman. For Good Counsel to make a run at an even higher national ranking, it needs to avoid any letdown games against a difficult schedule.
Coach quote: "Well, we certainly have some very good athletes on our team. My whole question is, if they play as a team, I think we have a chance to have a real good season. If they play selfishly and are more worried about themselves, then we won't have a very good year. It's as simple as that."
