Veteran coach Vanessa Watson announced her retirement in October, leaving Shabazz with 720 wins in her 31-year career. She also won 10 state championships and six Tournament of Champions titles. Assistant coach Jania Sims, a former Shabazz player, is the new head coach. She returns only a few starters, including
Ivana Negron (5.9 points per game) and
Acestra Robinson (5.2 ppg). However, Shabazz has averaged over 30 wins a season since 2008 including 33-1 and a state championship in 2014.

Manasquan won the Group 2 state championship and reached the finals of the Tournament of Champions before losing to Shabazz.
Marina Mabrey, an All-Group selection as a junior, returns for her senior year after averaging 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She's joined by
Courtney Hagaman, a senior who averaged 10 points a game last year, and sophomore
Stella Clark, who was second team All-Sophomore/Freshman by NJ.com.

St. John-Vianney won the Non-Public South A championship over Gloucester Catholic and lost only four players from last year's group. The Lancers return All-Non Public first team pick
Kelly Campbell, who made the team as a sophomore. Also back is junior guard
Emily Uribe, who also joined Campbell on the All-Sophomore/Freshman team.

Eastside won the North 1 Group 4 championship last year, but fell to St. Rose in the first round of the Tournament of Champions. The Ghosts return one of the top players in New Jersey, however, in
Taylor Brown, who has committed to play at Clemson. Brown was a first team All-Group 4 selection by NJ.com last season.

Immaculate Heart Academy won its fifth straight section championship last year and had a win over St. John-Vianney at the Tournament of Champions before falling to Woodrow Wilson. The top two players from last year's squad return in All-Junior third team selection
