As expected, the two top ranked teams closed out their regular season in winning fashion, but it was Keystone (La Grange, Ohio) senior pitcher Sydney Campbell stealing the spotlight as she recorded her 53rd consecutive win and came within one out of pitching two perfect games last week.
Campbell led No. 14-ranked Keystone to the Prebis Memorial Tournament title over the weekend. In the process, Keystone handed Perrysburg its first loss of the season, 2-1 in eight innings, and then Campbell pitched 6.2 innings of no-hit ball before allowing a double with two out in the seventh in the 1-0 title win over Champion (Warren).
Earlier in the week, Campbell tossed a perfect game in beating Wellington 8-0 — her 51st first consecutive victory. She stretched that to 53 with the wins over Perrysburg and Champion. Keystone, which was 34-0 last season, has won 53 straight.
