Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Jamar Curtis of
St. John's (Washington, D.C.) is the 2021 MaxPreps Washington D.C. High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound, senior running back topped the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the 11-0 Cadets. He was the bell cow back for a St. John's team that won the WCAC title as sits at No. 21 in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings.
Curtis ran for more than 100 yards six time this season, including a 156-yard, two-touchdown night against Good Counsel on Oct. 30. The uncommitted back rushed for nine scores and caught three touchdown passes as part of his 16-catch, 173-yard season.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.
