Astoria was made famous by being the home of the Goonies, but is brought back into the light because of the MaxPreps USA Football Road Tour. We rolled into this quiet little town tonight in order to sleep and then wake up in the town that was the setting for one of the most famous family adventure comedy movies in American history. Sloth, Chunk and the rest of the gang caused havoc in this town, and Mike and I are going to try and do the same (J/K).
The truth to this sidetrack is that the beginning of highway 101 down the coast of Oregon starts here. We have this upcoming week free of games, so we decided to treat ourselves to a little scenic route. 348 miles of coastal driving until we are back in our home state of California, and are able to get ready for the most controversial and highly anticipated games in California history.
This weekend's games have shuffled the rankings, given us section champions, and have brought us one week closer to the announcement of which team will represent not only their division, but their region. Grant showed why they should be considered as a bowl selection, Orange Lutheran will try to strengthen their case against Edison for the South Division II spot, and Colfax looses to a bowl Division I team for a chance at the North Division II bowl spot. Go to http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/cif06_football.mxp to find out more about these games, and to see if your team has a chance to take part in California's first state championship in 79 years.
Last night's game might have been the best game of the tour, and really let us see the talent Washington has when it comes to high school football. Thank you Calvin, Jason, and Juliann for treating us so good and making the Washington experience one that we will always remember.
