The 2021 high school football season in Hawaii kicks off this week and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. With the 2020 season wiped out due to the pandemic, preseason rankings are a bit of a complicated puzzle but there is little doubt about who enters as the team to beat.
St. Louis hasn't lost to an in-state program since 2016 and has won four consecutive state titles. The Crusaders are 45-2 over the past five years and have captured 20 state championships overall, including 14 Oahu Prep Bowl victories from 1983 to 1998.
Head coach Ron Lee's team should be tough up front with Arizona pledge Jonah Savaiinaea (6-foot-3, 330) and San Diego State commit Laakea Kapoi (6-4, 305).
With no state championships played in 2020, defending champions include St. Louis (Open Division), Hilo (Division I) and Lahainaluna (Division II).
