The Grayville Bison will head out on the road to square off against the Hutsonville/Palestine Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Grayville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Grayville came up short against Webber and fell 8-5. The Bison have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Nevaeh Kissee made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Briley Campbell was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hutsonville/Palestine challenged Oblong on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 17-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hayden Monan was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Rilyn Lawhead was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Tiffany Traxler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Hutsonville/Palestine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oblong only posted an OBP of .296.
Hutsonville/Palestine is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Grayville, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Grayville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hutsonville/Palestine struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Grayville might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Hutsonville/Palestine in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Bison avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
