I was lucky enough to attend the Max Preps Tour of Champions Trophy presentation at Scott County high school this past Tuesday, May 8th, 2007. The Scott County Cardinals, led by X and O master Billy Hicks and super senior Matt Walls, won it all this year as they finish with a 34-2 overall record and a Kentucky State Championship.
The gymnasium was packed with students who with their thundering enthusiasm throughout the event clearly bled red and white. The Cardinals this year had one of the more remarkable seasons in Kentucky High School Basketball history. The team finished with an outstanding 2778 points on the season, which was the second highest point total in the nation. The team also finished with 34 wins, which was the third highest win total in the nation. This truly was a national powerhouse and team of champions.
On hand to present the award at the event was Colonel Turner from the Kentucky Army National Guard and yours truly, Peter DeRogatis. After a mind-bending applause from each of the teams tremendous accomplishments this season, Colonel Turner took the stage and presented coach Billy Hicks with the Max Preps Tour of Champions Trophy. The Kentucky National Guard unfurled a 10 X 5 team picture, which will hang in center stage in the Cardinal Coliseum.
We had a tremedous time at Scott County this past week and I hope to have the opportunity to once again honor the Cardinals as Max Preps' Team of Champions.
Congratulations Cardinals and good luck next year!
The Ambassador,
Peter DeRogatis
