The high school football season in Wisconsin came to a close over the weekend.
Franklin was among the victors with a 38-17 win over
Sun Prairie in the Division 1 championship game. That helped propel the Sabers to the No. 1 ranking in the final Wisconsin MaxPreps Top 25.
MaxPreps Wisconsin Player of the Year Myles Burkett threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns to lead Franklin (14-0) past Sun Prairie in the title tilt. Burkett threw for over 3,400 yards and 36 scores on the season.
Franklin, which averaged 43.9 points per game in 2021, won its second state championship in school history and first since 2006. Aside from last year's COVID-shortened season, the Sabers have won 10 games or more in six straight seasons.
Unbeaten Division 4 state champion
Catholic Memorial (Waukesha) finished at No. 2 in the rankings. The Crusaders (14-0) averaged 43.1 points per game while allowing just 8.1.
