Walton’s Michael Boydston turned in the big performance of Friday night in Georgia, rushing for 301 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-28 Raider win over Region 6-AAAAA rival Campbell.
“Yes, he can play a little football,” Walton head coach Ed Dudley told the Marietta Daily Journal.
Boydston, who spent his freshman year at Walton and is back after transferring from Kell High School, reached the end zone four times in the first half and headed to the locker room with 155 yards already.
Boydston added the final score at the right time as Campbell was showing signs of life. With just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter he broke away for a 59-yard touchdown run that sealed the victory.
Dudley knows his No. 8-ranked Raiders can improve.
"We do have some things to work on – ball security and too many penalties," Dudley said to the Marietta Daily Journal.
Buford 41, Lovett 0
The rematch of last year's AA state championship game looked an awful lot like a replay as Buford hammered Lovett 41-0.
The Wolves dominated the Atlanta school 50-0 in last December’s title game. In three contests between the two teams, Buford has outscored the Lions 112-0.
Storm Johnson and Cody Getz combined for 279 yards on the ground and five touchdowns to lead Buford.
Even the Lions are in awe at what the Wolves are capable of.
“Buford is always going to give great effort and have superior athletes playing at a high level,” Lovett coach Mike Muschamp told the Gwinnett Daily Post. “They don’t have the big name guys like they did last year, but I think because of that they are all playing well together.”
Softball: No-Hitter for Sprayberry
Shelby Haughey tossed a nine-strikeout no hitter last week against North Paulding to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 4-0 win.
Sarah Jomaa, Sarah Tibbits and Megan Uhrman grabbed RBI singles in the Jackets’ three-run third inning, helping Sprayberry improve its regional record to 2-2. Uhrman and Tibbits each went 2-for-3 and Chantel Gautney added a double.
Volleyball: Pope Takes Care of Out of Towners
Pope of Marietta grabbed two victories to open up the Lovett Tournament last Friday over out-of-state teams.

Leading the charge for the Lady Greyhounds was Mary Hoey who tallied 14 kills and 13 digs. Mary Hannah Arrington also tallied 14 digs and 12 kills while Sarah Morris had 12 kills and 3 blocks.
