The high school football season in Kansas came to a close over the weekend. Blue Valley Northwest was among the victors, beating three-time defending state champion Derby 41-21 in the Class 6A state championship game. That triumph helped propel the Huskies to the No. 1 ranking in the final Kansas MaxPreps Top 25.
Blue Valley Northwest was led all year by MaxPreps Kansas Player of the Year
Mikey Pauley, who passed and ran for 3,159 yards and accounted for 45 touchdowns — including five in the state championship game.
The Huskies scored 569 points in 2021 — an average of 43.8 points per game — while holding their opponents to 223 points over 13 games. Blue Valley Northwest scored 45 points or better in seven contests, limited its opposition to 10 points or less six times and posted two shutouts in giving up just north of 17 points a game.
Class 3A state champion Andale (13-0) upended Frontenac (10-3) 53-0 in the title game to finish the year in Kansas' No. 2 position while Kansas large school runner-up Derby (11-1) finished third.
