According to the Texas Association of Sports Officials, the fall high school sports season in the Lone Star State is full speed ahead.
A newsletter from the organization Friday read: "Based on information that is currently available, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) are planning to proceed with the fall sports as scheduled. Modifications for the health and safety of players, coaches, other team staff, fans and officials will be addressed based on each sport."
The newsletter also included a statement from TAPPS Executive Director Bryan Bunselmeyer.
"At TAPPS, we are moving forward with our plans for the 2020-21 school year as published on our official calendar which can be found at www.tapps.biz. ... TAPPS and our member schools will continue developing protocols which comply with local, state and national requirements for the health and safety of all our stakeholders, which includes our officials," Bunselmeyer said.
TASO said it continues to work closely with both the UIL and TAPPS and will keep its members updated as situations develop.
On Wednesday, the UIL met for a legislative counsil meeting and noted: "Any plans regarding UIL activities and events for the 2020-21 school year will be dependent upon guidance from local and state authorities and will be released by UIL when more information is available.
"UIL will continue to work with state officials and monitor CDC and other federal guidance to determine any potential modifications for activities. Schools should take their local context into account and should follow all local and state requirements when considering UIL activities."
