Jenna Prandini is no magic act but she is one of the most versatile sprinter-jumpers in the nation and she's from nearby Clovis High. She'll prepare for the upcoming outdoor season after taking two firsts – the long and triple jump - and a second (100 meters) at the CIF State Championships in June.
If she adds a fourth event - the 200 - she has an outside chance of winning the state meet all by herself. See
Steve Brand's story on that possibility and her tremendous support team.
Ciarra Brewer (James Logan-Union City, Calif.), the state triple jump runner-up and current national indoor leader, is the other headliner in the 15-event, 7.5-hour prep event.
In fact, Prandini and Brewer will go head-to-head in the triple jump, which should be the day's premier event.
The meet will feature more than a 1,000 prep athletes who all qualified in one of eight competitions that were held at eight various locations in California. The winners are considered the California state indoor champions though this is the only indoor meet of the season in the state.
The first prep events today begins at 2:30 p.m.
NOTES: The Save Mart Center features a new $1 million Tartan Track, which was donated by Fred Arnold, in honor of his late wife Madeleine.
