Mother of Mercy (Cincinnati) girls' basketball coach
Mary Jo Huismann won her 600th career game Wednesday night as the
Bobcats defeated host Hughes 49-44. Huismann, who is one of the state's
all-time winningest coaches, is the sixth coach in Ohio history to
record 600 wins, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
"This was a pretty good one," Huismann told the Cincinnati Enquirer
.
"All (wins) are good, but this was a pretty good one. (Reaching 600
wins) just comes down to a lot of good kids coming through here. I've
been coaching a long time and it's still fun."
TOP STANDOUTS* Gregg Jordan, Fairfield bowling: He had a 500
series as the Indians defeated Monroe 2,934 to 2,509. Jordan bowled a
high game of 268 for Fairfield, which improved to 2-0.

Jones, Hughes Center (Cincinnati) girls' basketball: The senior guard had 20 points on
Wednesday night in a 49-44 loss to Mother of Mercy. Jones, the Cincinnati Metro
Athletic Conference player of the year last season, is committed to play
college basketball at Morehead State.
* Chloe Pavlech, Sycamore (Cincinnati)
girls' basketball: The junior guard had 16 points, three rebounds and
four steals in a 42-28 win over visiting St. Ursula. Pavlech, who is
verbally committed to Maryland, averaged 17 points through the first two
games of the season.
THIS WEEK* North College Hill (Cincinnati) at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy
boys' basketball, 7:30 p.m. Monday: Two Miami Valley Conference teams
play in suburban Cincinnati. NCH, which was picked second in its
division, is led by Greg Sevilla, who averaged 15.8 points last season.
CHCA has senior guard Aaron O'Neill, who is the son of former baseball Major
Leaguer Paul O'Neill.
* Wyoming (Cincinnati) at Madeira (Cincinnati), boys' basketball, 7:30
p.m. Friday: These two CHL powers meet after Wyoming finished third and
Madeira second in the league last year. Wyoming has senior Kyle
Seyfired, who averaged 10 points last season. Madeira's only league
losses last season were to Indian Hill.
* Bluegrass-Buckeye
Classic boys' basketball, Saturday and Sunday: This annual event takes
place at Northern Kentucky University. Several top Cincinnati teams will
face northern Kentucky teams. A featured matchup Saturday is
Holmes (Covington, Ky.) vs.
Aiken (Cincinnati) at 7 p.m. Aiken is led by junior guard William
Moore, who has at least five scholarship offers.
Taft (Cincinnati) plays
Male (Louisville, Ky.) at 8:30 p.m. Taft is led by junior forward
Adolphus Washington, who
is one of the nation's top football recruits in the 2012 class. There
are three games Sunday, including
Covington Catholic (Park Hills, Ky.) vs.
St. Xavier (Cincinnati).
RANDOM THOUGHTSThe annual Classic in the Country Challenge is
Jan. 15-17 in Berlin, Ohio. The event features several of the state's
top girls' basketball teams. Cincinnati-area teams scheduled to
participate include

Lakota East (Liberty Township),
Indian Hill (Cincinnati),

Princeton (Cincinnati). … Former St. Bernard-Elmwood Place boys'
basketball coach Jerry Radtke died suddenly Monday of an aortic anuerysm
at the age of 69. He led St. Bernard to three consecutive district
titles in the 1970s. He coached from 1968-85 and '92-99 at the school. …
Fairfield wrestling coach Ron Masanek will begin his 46th season at the
school this winter. Masanek is in the top five in wins for wrestling
coaches. He entered the season with a record of 368-75-7.
