For the second time on this tour, the National Guard honored another outstanding group of Texas athletes. On Wednesday, April 23, the Cy-Fair High School girl’s basketball team was honored for being ranked number 5 in the country. The ceremony was part of an annual field day competition the school holds every year for their varsity athletes. They are broken into teams to compete in a variety of different activities to earn points, and it gets very competitive!
When the students finished their activities, everyone headed down to the auditorium, where a ceremony was held to honor the athletes and coaching staff. Before the presentation started, the National Guard threw T-shirts into the crowd of students, and they went wild for them! After that, the ceremony began, and it was at this time that the Lady Bobcats were presented with their award. MaxPreps representative Buddy Carlisle spoke about the team’s numerous achievements during their season, then handed the presentation over to Master Sergeant Maynard Thomas, who presented head coach Ann Roubique with the trophy and gave all the girls on the team their own T-shirts.
Then, the National Guard representatives and the entire team took formal pictures, even though they were hot and sweaty from their competitions earlier! It was an exciting time for the school, and we were lucky to be able to honor the girls during an event they look forward to enjoy so much.
