Ever since
Walteze Champ of
Homer (La.) first stepped on the high school football field he has been a complete beast. The 6-foot, 230-pound senior helped his team win a state title last season but has gained more notoriety from a picture that has been making the rounds on social media this week.
As evidenced by the photo, Champ is an intimidating presence at the high school level. He backs up the look with his play, getting into the backfield with ease and pancaking would-be tacklers offensively at guard.
In the first game of the season against LSU running back commit Trey Holly and Union Parish, Champ recorded 10 tackles and three tackles for loss. Holly was limited to four yards per carry.
Champ has seven sacks in just three games this season, helping the Pelicans go 2-1. In the weight room he has highs of 405 pounds on bench, 545 pounds on squats and 606 pounds in the deadlift.
Programs at the next level are taking notice as Westminster College and Anna Maria College extended offers this week.
