The 7th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard headed to southern Virginia Friday night, January 6th to honor Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake. It was a high energy evening! The schedule was packed with two basketball games, however the evening really belonged to the Tiger football team, the 2011 Virginia State Champions!
Not only was the gym packed with Tiger fans, but there were several special guests present to honor the Tigers for their success. To begin the presentation, Todd Parker from Oscar Smith High School introduced the evening's first guest, Mr. Steve Spiewak from MaxPreps. The crowd burst into the loudest cheer of the night when Spiewak told the crowd that the Tigers were ranked No. 50 out of the over 16,000 schools involved in the Max Preps computer rankings across the country. Huge honors!
When the crowd finally subsided a bit, Spiewak handed the microphone over to Sergeant First Class Carlton Gray from the Virginia Army National Guard. Sgt. Gray congratulated Coach Morgan and the team and attributed their success to perseverance, hard work, and determination all traits exemplified in a Army National Guardsmen. Sgt. Gray then presented him with the well-deserved Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Coach Morgan proudly held the "minuteman" trophy over his head in response to the cheers.
Shortly afterward, Coach Morgan thanked the parents, the fans, the players, and his staff for an unforgettable season. To conclude the evening, Coach Morgan proudly carried the trophy out of the gym, and placed it in the trophy case next to the Army National Guard national ranking trophy the Tigers earned in 2009!
