MaxPreps and JJHuddle are proud to announce that they will sponsor athletes of the week in girls basketball during the 2016-2017 school year.

Each week during the season (regular and post), there will be a fan-generated contest to tab two weekly winners. Each winner will receive awards (bracelets and certificates).

How does it work?

Fans will nominate top performances (send emails to efrantz@maxpreps.com) and nominees will also be selected from those schools that report stats on MaxPreps. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on MaxPreps and JJHuddle every Tuesday and voting will be conducted in a special poll. Voting will cease at noon on Monday. The winners (two per week) will be announced the next day along with the next week's nominees. The TOP TWO vote-getters will win the weekly awards.

Last week over 159,000 votes were cast! And THREE girls generated over 30% of the votes each. Therefore, this week we are naming all three players winners.

* Madie Blyer, Hoover (North Canton) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS) 
Senior point guard and Ashland recruit hit two 3s in the final 60 seconds, including the game-winner as time expired, to lift the Vikings past Federal League rival and champion GlenOak44-43 in a D-I district final. Blyer ended with 11 points.

* Gabby Burris, Liberty Union (Baltimore) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Had 31 points and 10 rebounds in a 66-62 win over North Union in a D-III district semifinal. Added 32 points and 15 rebounds in a district final win over Marion Pleasant.

* Kylie White, Ottawa-Glandorf (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Senior post scored 16 points and became just the third player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in a 51-40 D-II district semifinal win over Lima Bath.


* Kadie Hempfling, Ottawa-Glandorf
Junior had a triple-double (12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists) and added eight steals in a 59-68 D-II district semifinal win over Clyde. Added 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 51-34 regional final win over Norton.

* Kierstan Bell, McKinley (Canton)
Sophomore had 32 points in a 66-45 D-I regional semifinal win over Euclid. Added 22 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 51-49 regional final win over Solon.

* Sydney Holderman and Lexie Wright, Riverdale (Mt. Blanchard)
Holderman scored 22 points to become her school’s all-time leading scorer (1,615 points) and Wright grabbed eight rebounds to set a program single-season record (311) in an 85-46 D-III regional semifinal loss to Africentric. Riverdale entered the postseason 10-12 before rattling off four straight wins and claiming a district title.

* Cassie Meyer, Jackson Center
Senior hit 14-of-16 free throws in the fourth quarter and scored a game-high 22 points in a 42-29 D-IV regional semifinal win over Tri-Village. Added six points, eight rebounds and four assists in a 35-31 regional final win over Minster.

* Lauren Jones, Garfield (Garrettsville)
Senior scored 18 points to become just the second player in program history to surpass 1,000 points for her career in a 76-46 D-III regional final loss to Gilmour Academy.

* Gabby Stare, Newark
Freshman scored a game-high 23 points as the unbeaten Wildcats downed Dublin Coffman 66-54 to win a D-I regional title. Had 10 points in a 72-40 regional semifinal win over Reynoldsburg.

* Jimi Howell, Norton
Had 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 55-50 D-II regional semifinal win over Norwalk.
