Some people thought it was only a matter of when for
Glades Day (Belle Glade, Fla.) running back
Kelvin Taylor and it turns out Junior Day was the opportune time to make a commitment.
One of the country's top backs, Taylor committed to the Gators Saturday morning following an unofficial visit. He will follow in the footsteps of his record-setting father Fred Taylor, who gained 3,075 yards and scored 31 touchdowns in his four-year career in Gainesville.
Kelvin Taylor rushed 292 times last season for 2,884 yards and 40 touchdowns was was a U.S. Air Force Small Schools All-American.
"I LOVE MY GATOR FAM!!!! #gatornation," Kelvin Taylor tweeted.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder
passed Emmitt Smith to become the state's all-time career rushing leader last season as a junior. Taylor's father was an All American at Florida before earned All-Pro with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Florida wide receivers coach Aubrey Hill was actually teammates with the elder Taylor at Florida, which no doubt helped land Kelvin Taylor, who strongly considered Alabama.
"Congrats to my son @ImKelvinTaylor on his commitment to the best university in the world #GATORNATION," Fred Taylor tweeted shortly after his son committed.
Kelvin Taylor enters his senior season with 9,698 career yards and will be ranked as one of the top running backs in a deep year at the position in the state of Florida. He becomes the fifth commitment for Florida in the class of 2013 and second running back, joining the smaller, quicker
Winter Haven (Fla.) back Adam Lane.
