Trent Seaborn of
Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) is the 2023 MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year, joining past high school football stars like Nick Bosa (2012), Trevor Lawrence (2014), Arch Manning (2019), Bryce Underwood (2021) and Julian Lewis (2022).
After leading Thompson to a state title as an eighth grader, Seaborn faced perhaps unprecedented expectations as a freshman on the gridiron.
Steering the ship for one of the top programs in Alabama's largest classification, Seaborn completed 195 of 271 passes for 2,590 yards and 27 touchdowns, guiding Thompson back to the Class 7A state title game. The Warriors finished 11-2.
"He understands at a young age what we are trying to do, and he understands he is not going to be perfect,"
head coach Mark Freeman said last summer. "He can play the next play and not get hung up on the previous one."
Seaborn was named second team Class 7A All-State by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
247Sports reports he has already received 14 offers, including Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi and Oregon.
The state of Alabama also produced the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year in 2020 when Ronnie Royal of Alexandria earned the honor. Seaborn is the ninth quarterback to take home the honor joining Austin Kafentzis, Trevor Lawrence, JT Daniels, Sam Huard, Gunner Stockton, Arch Manning, Bryce Underwood and Julian Lewis.
