The towering 6-foot-5, 190-pound senior did the unthinkable and booted a 72-yard field goal during practice. No, your eyes don't deceive you. We have the video above as proof.
That distance is farther than any recorded kick in the history of the NFL. Not too shabby. Whelan can do it all in the kicking department. He's 19-of-20 on PAT's, averages 41 yards a punt and 58 yards a kickoff on the year for
Rancho Mirage (Calif.).
His strong leg is paying serious dividends for the 3-1 Rattlers.
