Baseball Recap: Madison-Grant Takes a Loss

If Madison-Grant was feeling good fresh off their 8-1 takedown of Daleville last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Argylls took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers on Thursday. The Argylls were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Dylan Martin was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Brock Barnhart made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Grady Haisley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Madison-Grant now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Alexandria-Monroe, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coming up, Madison-Grant will be playing at home against Wabash at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Argylls' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Apaches have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Alexandria-Monroe, they will head out to take on Wapahani at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
