West Sierra recap Oct. 30, 2012
Coalinga extended the longest winning streak in West Sierra this week by beating Dos Palos, 31-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Firebaugh moved up to 758 from 802 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of besting Avenal 34-7.
Coalinga's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Troy Arce threw for 103 and two touchdowns and Rj Ybarra had 56 yards receiving. On the ground Ryan Vasquez chipped in 121 yards. Tyler Nash helped Coalinga's passing attack out by catching three balls for 42 yards.
Firebaugh's Josh Allen and Cristian Patlan have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Allen has thrown for 983 yards this season, while Patlan, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 14 catches for 383 yards. Vasquez from John Villa's team leads the league in rushing with 1368 yards.
A big matchup in West Sierra this week will be when Mendota takes on Bill Magnusson's team. At the moment, the Aztecs are in first, while the Eagles are in third.
Mendota led the league in scoring this week after putting up 46 points on Tranquillity.
