For the first time in four seasons, Barbe will not be the Class 5A state champion in Louisiana.
The Buccaneers, who have won three straight state championships and were the MaxPreps mythical national champions in 2014, lost to Haughton 2-0 in a single-game, first-round series. Barbe, which had been ranked No. 2 in the MaxPreps preseason national rankings, finishes the season 29-6 after its elimination.
Barbe had not lost a playoff series since falling to West Monroe in 2013. West Monroe, ranked No. 10 in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 50 national high school baseball rankings, becomes the clear favorite to win the Class 5A state title this year. Barbe, ranked No. 31 last week, falls from this week's rankings.
Buchanan, the 2016 mythical national champion, also lost week but the Bears did not fall out of the rankings. Buchanan fell from second to No. 7 after splitting its two games with Clovis West (Fresno). Buchanan has two more tough games this week as it faces Clovis, which entered the rankings this week at No. 44.
Shawnee (Okla.) holds on to the No. 1 ranking with a win streak that has stretched to 46 wins in a row.

Another big week for the Wolves, posting three wins by a combined score of 45-5. In a 14-0 win over Noble,
Tanner Sparks and
Jake Taylor each doubling and hitting a home run. Taylor knocked in one run and Sparks plated five. Sparks and Taylor were at it again in a 21-0 win over Noble, with Sparks belting a home run with two RBIs and Taylor hitting a grand slam and finishing with six RBIs. Sparks leads the nation with 71 RBIs while Taylor is fifth with 56. Shawnee also defeated OKC Broncos 10-5.
2. (3) Winder-Barrow (Winder, Ga.), 29-2
The Bulldogs opened the Georgia AAAAAA state playoffs with a 2-0 sweep of Harrison (Kennesaw).
Beau Hanna went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 3-2 win that Winder-Barrow won in the bottom of the eighth. He went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and
Zack Smith had a home run to lead the Bulldogs to an 8-0 second-game win. Winder-Barrow meets Richmond Hill in this week's second round.

3. (4) Huntington Beach (Calif.), 22-3
The Oilers claimed a pair of league contests from Fountain Valley last week, winning 4-3 and 6-1. In the second game,
Justin Brodt and
Josh Hahn each had home runs, and
Hagen Danner went five innings with eight strikeouts to get the win.
4. (5) North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.), 30-2The Bulldogs had no trouble in the first round of the AAAAAAA state playoffs, beating Rockdale County (Conyers) 10-0 and 11-1.
Parker Coyne had a home run in the first game and joined
Corey Collins,
Will Bennett and
Josh Shuler with home runs in the second game. North Gwinnett meets Lassiter in the second round.
5. (7) Lamar (Houston), 25-2-1Lamar downed three more district foes last week, beating Chavez (Houston) 5-1, Westside (Houston) 9-0 and Houston Heights 8-5. Lamar takes on Cypress Falls in Bi-District play later this week.
6. (8) Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 22-2
The Mavericks ended the regular season with a pair of wins last week.
Daniel Federman got the 5-0 win over Somerset Academy striking out nine in five innings.
Joe Perez belted a home run in a 5-2 win over Western.
7. (2) Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.), 23-2The Bears lost in league play for just the second time in two years following a 2-1 loss last week to rival Clovis (West (Fresno). Buchanan bounced back with an 11-8 win.
Brady Hormel provided the only run in the loss with a solo home run. It doesn't get any easier for the Bears, who face Clovis for two games this week.
8. (6) Columbus (Miami), 23-2The Explorers dropped an 8-6 decision in the championship game of the GMAC tournament, falling to Coral Park. Earlier in the tournament, Columbus topped Goleman 4-1 and Hialeah 12-2. Columbus opens the postseason against Southwest Miami.
9. (9) Rancho Bernardo (San Diego), 22-2The Broncos claimed a pair from Poway in Palomar League play, winning 8-1 and 2-1.
Noah Kaagan and
Alika Williams each homered in the 8-1 win.
10. (10) West Monroe (La.), 35-2
The Rebels advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A state playoffs, beating L.W. Higgins 10-0 in bi-district play and Ouachita Parish 2-0 and 4-1 in regional play.
Jacob Pearson had a triple and a home run in the win over L.W. Higgins.
11. (12) Allatoona (Acworth, Ga.), 29-3
The Buccaneers took a pair from Lanier to open the Class AAAAAA state playoffs. In a 7-2 win,
Tyler Messick went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. In a 6-2 victory,
Skylar McPhee went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Allatoona takes on Effingham in this week's second round.
12. (16) George Ranch (Richmond, Texas), 25-3George Ranch rebounded from its first two district losses of the season to beat Alief Elsik 9-0 and Alief Taylor 18-1 in District 23-6A play. George Ranch earned the No. 1 overall district seed and takes on Clear Brook in bi-district play.
13. (11) Owasso (Okla.), 27-3The Rams took a pair from Page (Sand Springs), winning 4-2 and 5-0, but lost a 1-0 decision to Ozark (Mo.).
Caleb Denny hit one out in the 4-2 win over Page.
Nate Wohlgemuth hit one out in the 5-0 victory.
14. (15) Moody (Corpus Christi, Texas), 20-1-3Moody went 2-1 against crosstown rival Calallen (Corpus Christi) to capture the District 30-5A championship. After losing the first game 8-3, Moody won the second game 8-3 with as
Jordan Perez homered and
Marcus Cantu added a double and triple.
Alec Martinez went 6.2 innings and struck out 11 but did not get the decision as Moody won in the bottom of the eighth.
15. (13) Mosley (Lynn Haven, Fla.), 22-2The Dolphins concluded the regular season by winning two of their final three games. Mosley knocked off Bay (Panama City) 5-0 and Rutherford (Panama City) 11-3, but fell to Lincoln (Tallahassee) 3-2.
RJ Yeager homered in the Rutherford win.
16. (19) Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.), 22-1The Crusaders took two from St. Albans (Washington, D.C.), winning 2-0 and 6-5.
Harold Cortijo tossed a one-hitter in the 2-0 win, striking out 11.
Justin Oakley homered in the second game.
17. (21) Lake Travis (Austin, Texas), 22-3-1The Cavaliers did not play last week, but end the season as the district champion with a 16-2 record. Lake Travis opens bi-district play against Madison (San Antonio).
18. (22) West Orange (Winter Garden, Fla.), 21-3Idle last week, West Orange begins district tournament play this week.
19. (23) Pope (Marietta, Ga.), 26-5The Greyhounds began AAAAAA postseason play with a sweep of Creekside. In a 6-2 win,
Buddy Floyd had a pair of doubles. In a 14-0 win, Pope had six doubles, including two by
Antonio Jareno.
20. (20) Fort Bend Travis (Richmond, Texas), 23-5The Tigers lost their district final to Fort Bend Kempner 2-0, after defeating Fort Bend Hightower 21-1 earlier in the week. Travis, Kempner and Fort Bend Ridge Point all finished 12-2 in district play, but Travis earned the No. 1 seed for the postseason.
21. (25) Helena (Ala.), 32-5Helena advanced to the third round of the Class 6A state playoffs with a sweep of Opelika.
Sam Praytor homered in the 3-0 win, while
Jake Busby doubled and Riley Davis tripled in a 3-1 win.
22. (26) St. Laurence (Burbank, Ill.), 21-1St. Laurence won four times last week, beating Lockport 13-0, Providence Catholic 12-6 and 6-0, and Loyola Academy 6-3.
23. (28) Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 22-4The Gaels defeated Sierra Vista (Las Vegas) three times last week 5-1, 12-2 and 8-2.
24. (29) South Hills (West Covina, Calif.), 18-6The Huskies rebounded from a rough week to beat Diamond Bar 9-1 and 12-0.
25. (35) Cullman (Ala.), 33-7Cullman easily advanced to the Class 6A third round with a 17-0, 10-0 sweep of Walker.

26. (14) Colleyville Heritage (Colleyville, Texas), 29-3-1
The Panthers went 1-2 against a tough Grapevine team last week, losing the opener 10-0 before winning 2-0 and the falling 6-3 in the rubber match.
Alex Scherff threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the 2-0 win, striking out eight.
27. (24) Jackson (Massillon, Ohio), 17-1
The Bears saw a 17-game win streak to start the season end with a 7-4 loss to Tallmadge. Jackson is ranked No. 1 in Division 1 in the state of Ohio by the state coaches association polls.
28. (32) Sandalwood (Jacksonville, Fla.), 20-4
Sandalwood rebounded from a 7-3 loss to Yulee to beat the Hornets 13-1 and then blank First Coast (Jacksonville) 10-0.

Walton set up a showdown with Mill Creek (Hoschton) after beating Westlake (Atlanta) 10-0 and 13-1.
30. (35) Oxford (Miss.), 27-4
Oxford won its first playoff series, beating Ridgeland 14-1 and 9-4.
31. (38) McGill-Toolen (Mobile, Ala.), 30-6
The Yellowjackets took a pair from Prattville, 14-0 and 14-0, to advance to the second round off the Class 7A playoffs.

Basha opened the postseason with a 9-8 win over Valley Vista (Surprise) in the Class 6A state playoffs and face Pinnacle in the second round.

Hawks face Walton (Marietta) in the second round of the AAAAAAA state playoffs after eliminating South Gwinnett (Snellville) 6-0 and 8-2.

Opened the postseason with a 9-4, 11-7 sweep of Forsyth Central (Cumming) in the AAAAAAA playoffs. The Panthers take on Colquitt County (Moultrie) this week.

The Cougars lost a nonleague contest with American Heritage (Plantation), falling 10-2 in their only game last week. Canterbury begins district playoffs this week.

The Lancers dropped to fourth in the Trinity League standings after falling to Servite (Anaheim) 4-0 and 2-0, and winning 11-5 in the three-game series.
