Marshall is 1-6 against Texas since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Marshall Mavericks will be playing at home against the Texas Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Marshall will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Texas is ranked 38th).
After soaring to 31 points the game before, Marshall were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell 17-7 to Mt. Pleasant.
Meanwhile, Texas put another one in the bag two Fridays ago to keep their undefeated season alive. They beat Mt. Pleasant by the very same score they won with last week: 58-29. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Texas had established a 22 point advantage.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Texas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tradarian Ball, who rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also caught a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Javari Johnson, who rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries.
Texas' victory bumped their season record to 7-0 while Marshall's loss dropped theirs to 3-4.
Marshall came up short against Texas in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 42-35. Will Marshall have more luck at home instead of on the road?
