Brent Giddens didn't get the prize, but he's still in the hunt.
The boys basketball coach at
Beggs (Okla.) is an outstanding Elvis Presley imitator and he finished fourth Saturday during a contest at the Dick Clark Theater in Branson, Mo. He missed third place by a single point.
'I'm not very egotistical," he told MaxPreps, "but I really thought I was better than the three guys ahead of me. They (the first three) had a lot of fans and they received a lot of standing ovations. The winner lived just 20 miles from Branson. It wasn't supposed to be that way, but the audience can sway (the judges)."
The winner received a $2,000 cash prize.
Fortunately, Giddens was invited to attend the grand finale, Aug. 13-18 during Elvis Week in Memphis, Tenn. That contest, which will include the top 50 from throughout the country, will provide $50,000 and a recording contract for the winner.
Though disappointed, Giddens said, "It was a good experience and I got a lot of fans out of the deal. I know that the next time it really helps to know the fan base."
He added with a laugh, "I'm not going to quit my day job."
